After high school, not every athlete out there continues to play their favorite sport competitively in college. Although you don't give it up completely, intramurals and pick-up games never really seem to compare to your high school days. So here are 10 things that any former athlete can understand!
1. Awkwardly having to pay to attend sporting events. You get so used to getting in for free, it just seems unnatural the first time (and maybe the following three times) you have to pay for an actual ticket to get into the game.
2. Finally understanding the struggle your loved ones went through all of those years sitting on bleachers. No wonder bleacher seats are so popular. Grandma wasn't lying... they really are miracle workers!
3. You're constantly fighting the urge to jump out on the court and lend a hand. And you're wondering, did I make this many stupid mistakes back in my day? No wonder coach was always yelling at me!
4. You aren't entirely sure on what proper cheering etiquette is because you've never been on the sidelines before. Do I clap or scream like the moms do?
5. Wearing regular clothes at the game just doesn't feel right. Would it be lame to wear your old uniform and just sit on the bench?
6. Getting to enjoy the benefits of the concession stand. It's not all bad because you get to enjoy all of the candy and pizza you want without having to worry about an upset stomach.
7. Leaving the game without dripping in sweat for the first time in your life. So should I still shower when I get home or...?
8. Learning how to work out. How does one gym? Because my sport was always my workout.
9. Figuring out what to do with all of your free time. You're not really sure what to do between the hours of four and 11 p.m. because there was always practice or a game and the rest of the time you spent catching up on school work.
10. Actually having to pick out outfits everyday. Sweatpants, hoodies and slip-ons aren't acceptable for everyone to wear all the time?
