Summer in America is usually classified as the time between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Summer, like anything in America, is rather extreme. The days are hot enough to make you melt and the world is red, white, and blue. In honor of the kick off of an all-American summer, I've compiled a list of ten aggressively American foods that you can dine on.
1. Bacon soda.
You can't have a list of American things without including bacon. Perhaps the most American food of them all, bacon has escalated from a simple breakfast food to a lifestyle, one America has latched onto.
2. Doughnut burger.
Barring classic apple pie, doughnuts are perhaps the most popular sweet treat that America has to offer. Combine them with a traditionally grilled burger and you have a doubly American summer dining experience.
3. Deep fried mac and cheese.
Take a classic American side dish and deep fry it, and you've got yourself a party. You can find these babies at fairs, carnivals, festivals, and anything else where there's outdoor food vendors.
4. Watermelon jello shots.
Watermelon is a classic summer treat when you're a kid, and it can be just as much fun when you're of legal drinking age. With Jello, vodka, and a watermelon rind you can make these outrageous boozy treats. Save the watermelon guts and you have a nice snack for later.
5. Chicken fried burger.
What's better than fried chicken? Frying something else in the style of fried chicken. It doesn't get much more American than this.
6. Giant gummy bear.
Everything is bigger in America, including our snacks. These massive gummy bears average out at 6,120 calories, the equivalent of 1,400 regular sized gummy bears.
7. Kitchen sink sundae.
A common turn of phrase in America is "everything but the kitchen sink," which is just another way to say "a lot of stuff." In Disney World's Beaches and Cream restaurant, though, you can get everything and the Kitchen Sink -- a giant sundae served up in bowl designed to look just like an actual sink. This treat hosts literally every single dessert topping available in the restaurant.
8. Deep fried Twinkies.
Twinkies are a quintessential American snack. Deep fry them and reach maximum Americanism.
9. Diamondbacks 18-nch corndog.
Corn dogs are a time honored American tradition for sporting events, festivals, and cook outs. The Arizona Diamondbacks created this 18-inch monster for their fans. It'll set you back $25, and you can only get it in their home stadium, Chase Field.
10. Maple bacon doughnut.
I couldn't finish off the list without more bacon and doughnuts, and this particular food combines the two American favorites with a twist of maple syrup. You can't get more American than this.
