Your freshman year of college is a big and an important time in anyone's life. These things, for me, made a big difference in my first year away from home.

A Skype Account (or anything related like FaceTime).

Being able to see and hear from my family when I missed them was so amazing. I got to see my dog, saw what my family was up to, and talk to my mom for hours to get my mind off of school for awhile. It felt like I was at home!

So many pencils and pens.

You will definitely lose a lot of them, and possibly give some to Chad to never brought a writing utensil to class, ever.

Drinks and snacks.

You WILL need a drink and snack for almost every occasion unless there is food already there, but always carry something to eat in your bookbag and at least have a bottle of water just in case!

A planner.

If you're like me, your brain probably won't be able to handle all the assignments and due dates and appointments. Help your brain and purchase a planner, because it makes everything so much easier.

Sweatpants.

Most likely, you won't want to dress up every single day for class. Especially if you have classes early in the morning.

An extra charger and set of headphones.

Hopefully, no one will steal your first one, but bring another just in case! You'll really want to listen to music, mostly when you no longer have your headphones...

A laptop.

Just... yes. You'll need this. Whether it is for Netflix or reading from your online book. It's almost a must in this day and age.

Pictures.

It's important to have some memories with you. On the wall or in your drawer to look at once in a while, you'll be glad you brought them with you. Maybe you can look at photos with your friends!

Face masks.

Your face made need some extra love when you're away, and it's a good way to bond with your friends!

Your most comfortable blanket.

After a long day of classes, and whatever activities, it's nice to get in your twin-sized bed and cuddle with your favorite blanket. Maybe you'll feel more at home this way. Maybe you'll think of your family and give them a call.

Hope this simple list helps you all in some way!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
