Reasons to Look Forward to Fall

Reasons to Look Forward to Fall

As we say goodbye to another fabulous, carefree summer, we have to remember all the great things about autumn.

1. Cooler Weather

As the leaves change color and the weather gets cooler, you won't have to worry about being sweaty when you walk into class; so that's a huge plus. Likewise, you won't have to worry about getting sunburn when you're outside longer than fifteen minutes.

2. Pumpkin Spice Everything

Despite the number of people that will call you "basic" when you order a pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks (or pretty much anywhere because pumpkin spice is everywhere), this seasonal food group is by far one of the best parts of autumn.

3. Football Games

Even at a school where sports may not be a huge part of student life as they are at other schools, going to football games with your friends is a must. There's nothing like showing your school spirit and wasting a ton of toast in the name of tradition.

4. Fall Fashion

What's not to love about boots, scarves, and sweaters?

5. Linvilla Orchards

If you're not from the Philadelphia area, you probably haven't heard of Linvilla Orchards, but now that you're here, you have to check it out. Only a short (25 minute) drive from UPenn, Linvilla is the perfect place to get away on a crisp fall weekend—you can pick your own apples, buy a few pumpkins to decorate, and then bring home one of their delicious pies.

6. Taylor Swift's New Album

Taylor Swift's new album will be released October 27th. If what will no doubt be Taylor's most amazing work of art yet isn't reason enough to be excited for fall, then I really don't know what is.

7. Fall Premieres

Finally you'll be able to stop wondering what will happen next between Fitz and Liv, Nick and Jess, and Mindy and Danny. All of your favorite shows are coming back for their fall premieres in September and October; so when you need a quick break from studying or a quiet night in, you can catch up on the lives of your favorite characters.

8. Halloween

If you're feeling really brave or looking for a good scare, Eastern State Penitentiary has "Terror Behind the Walls", which is pretty much a giant haunted house except it's in what was once a real prison. If being terrified isn't your kind of fun, watching scary movies with your friends is another great way to get ready for Halloween.

9. Thanksgiving

Finally, there is no better way to end Fall than giving thanks for all the things in life that we are so fortunate to have, like family, friends, and pumpkin spice lattes.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
