Going Out: It's a Chronicle

IT’S FRIDAY….

Whether you’re meeting up with friends at a local bar or dancing the night away at the best club in town, the stages of going out on a Friday night are long and sometimes grueling. From deciding if attending is even worth it, to picking an appropriate outfit and finally making the trek to the final destination, it’s no wonder you’re tired the next day. All that mental preparation (as well as the other events that going out entail) is a lot of work.

1. Firmly standing your ground and declaring that you won’t be going out tonight.

2. Hearing that all your friends are going and deciding you’ll think about re-thinking your declaration.

3. Editing your declaration by saying “I’ll only stay for a little bit.”

4. Later that evening sitting in your bed without pants on thinking to yourself “Do I really want to get up right now? I don’t even know most of the people going tonight.”

5. Finding every reason not to leave your humble abode “I should catch up on sleep.” (But you know that if you stay in you’ll only watch rom coms until 4AM). Either way, you’re not sleeping so pick your poison.

6. Turning on some music to set that party mood.

7. Texting your friends to ask if they’re “dressing cute, real cute or basically wearing the same thing you did to class but with different shoes.”

8. Letting out a huge “UGH” when you receive the reply that says “real cute.”

9. Trying on every piece of clothing in your closest and realizing you hate your clothes, you hate your style, and you don’t know what goes through your mind while shopping.

10. Changing the party pump up music to mask the stress of having absolutely nothing to wear.

11. Somehow being ready thirty minutes before you have to leave. It’s a mystery how you went from looking like you’re ready for bed to looking like you’re ready to walk the red carpet.

12. Finding ways to pass the time so you’re not the first one to show up.

13. Deciding to watch a quick show (the fact that you have THIS much time, HOW?)

14. Realizing that you should’ve just stayed in because this show and your bed are so inviting.

15. But you’re already dressed. “I showered, therefore I have to go.”

16. Finally being able to leave.

17. Forgetting at least one essential item (i.e. keys, transportation card, identification).

18. Arriving before everyone else even though you live the farthest.

19. Awkwardly standing alone doing that uncomfortable side step motion to keep busy while you wait for your friends to arrive.

20. Being extremely hot but not wanting to take your jacket off for two reasons. One, it completes your outfit and two; you don’t want to hold it.

21. Singing along to songs you don’t know (it’s fine, no one can hear you butcher those lyrics anyway).

22. Pointing to one of your girlfriend’s to have a sing-along moment, but then making the unfortunate realization that they’re just not getting it. So you’re forced to find someone else to share that special moment with (I thought this was OUR song but, OK).

23. Your feet are exhausted, you’re a little sweatier than you’d like to be, but you can’t leave because no one else wants to, not to mention it’s only been an hour.

24. Being more than starving once you finally do leave.

25. Resisting the urge to spend money on food. “I have stuff at home!”

26. Regretting your decision to not spend a dollar at Mickey D’s while eating toast, that resembles cardboard, at home.

27. Resting your head on your pillow and instantly falling asleep.

28. Dreaming about brunch the next day.

29. Waking up at noon saying, “I’m glad I went but now I can’t move...Netflix, we meet again.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
