Starting a new TV series is always a better idea than starting your homework, right? If you are on the lookout for a new TV series to obsess over this semester, I have some options that you should try.
Dexter
This is an hour-long show about a man named Dexter who is a blood analyst for the Miami police department by day and a serial killer by night. Since Dexter only kills certain kinds of people and works for the police, he can see who the police suspect and avoid suspicion. Watch the series to find out why he only kills certain people and how being a serial killer actually works out for Dexter. There are eight seasons of the show and it is my personal favorite show of all time.
If you decide to start watching this show, be aware that it has been on for a very long time. The show has been on for ten seasons and is still going strong. If you haven’t heard of Grey's Anatomy before, it follows a group of first year residents in a hospital all the way to becoming full-blown successful doctors. This is not just a show for pre-health majors; it is full of drama that appeals to all types of people.
Breaking Bad
I watched this entire series within a week during Christmas break. This show is about a man named Walter White who is diagnosed with stage-three lung cancer and is not given a lot of time to live. To pay for his medical expenses without going bankrupt and leave his family enough money to survive after he is gone, he decides to go into the drug-making business. Once you start, you can’t stop watching!
Friends and Boy Meets World
You can’t go wrong with these classic TV shows. These are both fun series that you don’t have to worry about keeping up with too much. They are two hilarious series that can’t be beat on TV anymore. Both series have been over for more than ten years. Friends was on for ten seasons and Boy Meets World for seven seasons. These are perfect TV series to watch when you need a study break or if you're bored while eating dinner.
Mad Men
Mad Men is about an advertising agent, Don Draper, and his day-to-day activities, whether it be his brilliant advertising ideas or his infidelity. Beware: when you first start watching the show, you may feel the urge to stop because Don is a successful douchebag who keeps putting himself on Santa’s naughty list. But don’t stop watching it! The series keeps getting better and better and the first few episodes are just groundwork for the episodes to come. You will find the series growing on you by the end of season one.
Scandal, Prison Break and Walking Dead are other series with great reviews. I’ve never seen them, but all of my friends say they are very good. Scandal has only been on three seasons, so far, so you could watch the first forty episodes and then watch at it’s regular air time on Thursdays at 9 p.m. The winter premiere of Scandal airs February 27.
Whichever show (or shows) you choose as your obsession this semester, make sure not to get too carried away and forget that you're in college.
