17 Things We Forget To Thank Our Roommates For

It's that time of year again...We're about to shove everything we own into our Vera Bradley duffels and make the drive (or flight) home for Thanksgiving. While we're stuffing our faces with our families, let's not forget about our mini family back at school... Our roommates.

1. Thank you for signing a lease with me, even though you knew exactly what you were getting yourself into.

2. Thank you for always sharing the family-sized hummus.

3. And the wine. Mostly the wine.

4. For always offering up your closet, even though all your outfits are comprised of my clothes anyway.

5. For never turning down a trip to Wawa, even if it's four in the morning... Because calories don't count after midnight.

6. For knowing full well that there's an open door policy. And for letting me barge into your room when I just have to vent. Which is basically every day.

7. For watching foreign soap operas with me while we pretend to know exactly what's going on.

8. For texting me "Are you alive?" the morning after a night out. And coming to cuddle as soon as I text you back.

9. For cleaning the living room with me. And finding all that stuff we lost under the couch. Like I actually forgot I owned those Tory shoes. And that frat tank. #GoFigure

10. For having an entire Pinterest board dedicated to living room decor, but fully accepting the fact that the only decoration we will ever have is that philanthropy banner. Which is totally fine.

11. For working late hours and still being awake when I get home from studying at the library... or going out.

12. And for listening about every detail of my night. Even if it was boring. Which it probably was, since you weren't there with me.

13. For having spontaneous movie marathon days where we never leave the house. Even when we have so many more productive things we could be doing.

14. For always telling me when my outfit looks bad. And for not being offended when I tell you that yours looks worse.

15. For letting me do your make-up. And eyebrows. And hair. And basically being your personal stylist.

16. For being there for my anxiety attacks, moments of joy, and nights where I just feel like crying.

17. And for actually making these four cement walls feel like home.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
