Your Summer 2017 Bucket List

The weather is starting to get hotter and summer 2017 is just around the corner. It’s time for all us Michiganders to wake up and celebrate surviving those tough brutal Michigan winter months. Every summer is sure to be better than the one before and here’s some ideas to add to your summer 2017 bucket list to ensure that this summer will be one you’ll never forget.

1. Attend as many Fairs and Festivals as Possible!

Kick off summer right May 26th through June 11th at the Gibraltar fair. Eat an elephant ear and enjoy some of the rides while making memories with the crazy individuals you consider your friends. Don’t forget to catch a few Firework shows while you’re at it.

2. Have a Zoo day.

Grab your friend or your boyfriend and head down to Woodward to visit the Detroit Zoo. See some penguins in the rather new Polk Penguin Conservation Center. Mark your calendars specifically for Meet Your Best Friend Day May 19th and 20th that’s taking place at the Zoo to see some extra furry faces you may even want to bring home with you!

3.Visit a Drive In.

Although they may be hard to find around the suburbs, it’s not impossible. There are actually a handful still functioning in Michigan. To get the full effect under the stars head up north to the Cherry Bowl!

4. Go for a Night Swim.

Nothing beats a nice relaxing dip in the lake or a pool with friends.

5. Have a Beach Day.

Grab a football or a volleyball and head to a beach. Whether it be Stoney Creek, New Baltimore Beach or Lexington beach get ready to spread out a towel and lay down to absorb some rays in the sun. For dinner include a picnic!

6. Have a Barbecue.

Nothing beats grilling some hot dogs and burgers. Have everyone bring a side dish and make it a feast with friends or family.

7. Travel somewhere new.

doesn’t matter if it’s a place in Michigan, out of state, or out of the country; go somewhere new! Make new friends and embark on a new adventure somewhere new!

8. Have a Bonfire

Sit around the fire with friends. Tell cheesy ghost stories or play a few rounds of never have I ever. Don’t forget the s’mores!

9. Visit Downtown Detroit.

Go to dinner at Shake Shack or Wahlburgers. Explore a Museum or the River Walk and lose yourself in the city for a day.

10. Attend a Summer Concert!

Win tickets or buy them the morning of when they are the cheapest. The best parties are at DTE, The Palace, The Joe, and Freedom Hill with your favorite artist.

11. Watch a Tigers Game!

Whether is be for a night game or a day game put on some Tiger's gear and head down to Comerica Park to cheer on our Tigers. Nothing beats a hot dog and a ballgame.

12. Have s Shopping Day.

Save up and have a shopping day! Dress up and spend the day at Partridge Creek or The Village of Rochester that way you don't miss out on the nice summer weather while shopping your heart out!

13. Take a Day Trip to Cedar Point!

Ride on all the coasters Cedar Point has to offer! If you're feeling brave take on Top Thrill Dragster. Just make sure that if you're a girl you put your hair in a bun first!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
