Your Quick Guide to Bimini

Everything you need to know about the Bahamian island just 50 miles from Miami.

The island of Bimini, Bahamas is just 50 miles away from Miami. This is good news considering the island is home to the beautiful Resorts World Bimini, which recently opened a Hilton Hotel on its property.

The newly done Hilton is home to beautiful pools, amazing bars, great service and fun events. During your time at the resort, my suggestion is to do absolutely nothing. Just lounge by the pool, order some food and drink some tropical drinks...Bimini will do the rest.

This weekend, Resorts World kicked off their new concert series with performances by Dru Hill and 112. The series will run throughout the summer and include performances from the likes of Lil Jon, Jay Sean, Bacon Brothers and more.

To plan your trip around one of the many events at RW Bimini, check out their website.

It’s very easy to get lost in the all the luxury Resorts World can offer, but the biggest mistake someone can make when visiting Bimini is not appreciating the beauty of the island and its natives.

So now it's time to focus on the town: where to eat, what to drink and what beach to lay on.

Three words: Joe's. Conch. Shack. This small shack is simply the best place to get fresh conch salad or delicious, greasy conch fritters. At Joe's you can spot someone in the back cutting up fresh conch as someone else in the front chops it up right away.

Once you've filled your tummy at Joe's, your next stop should be CJ's Deli where, just a few feet from the ocean, you can buy yourself a piña colada that has been poured directly into a fresh coconut.

Before making your way back to the resort, your last stop should be Edith's Pizza. At Edith's, you can eat pizza that is freshly made on "bimini bread" dough all while overlooking Bimini's crystal blue water. If I'm being honest, Edith's is home to the best pizza I have ever had.

Here's the moral of the story: if you're from Miami, or really anywhere, and need a quick escape for the weekend...Bimini is the place to go.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
