Friends come and go; it's part of life. You'll meet the temporary ones, the ones who were never there in the first place, but most importantly, the ones who are in it for the long haul. Who you spend your time with forever marks your life. Are you putting effort in with the right types of friends?

1. Friends who call you first when they have good/bad news

No matter if it's good, bad, or ugly, the friends who come to you first with news and life updates are the ones to keep around in your life. To be told something first means that they thought of you as soon as something happened, and cared enough to tell you before anyone else. Being the first person that comes to mind is a good feeling.

2. Friends who fight do it right

Friendships that never have any problems or disagreements are a terrible sign. No one agrees on everything, so if you do, something is wrong. To have an authentic friendship, both parties have to feel comfortable enough and safe enough to express their honest opinion. If your friendship is strong, you can make it through any conflict life throws your way.

3. Friends who forgive you

You're going to be wrong in life sometimes. You're going to make mistakes, lash out, say the wrong thing, and have regrets. Your true friends will know how to see past those things. It may take days, or even months, but they will see that your friendship together is worth more than any superficial mistake(s).

4. Friends who can love you from afar

It's hard stay in touch friends when they become long distant. Friends who can keep up with your life and show that they still want an active friendship , despite the odds, deserve your love. Even though you two live two totally different lives because of distance, they put in effort to make you a priority. It may not be an everyday non-stop texting spree, but it makes the few times that you get to see them that much more special.

5. Friends who can tell when you are hurting

Sometimes it's a facial expression, sometimes it's body language , but other times it's like a twin telepathy thing. Friends who truly care about you have taken the time to know the subtle differences in your personality when you are upset. They might not know what exactly you are upset about, but they will know when it's time for a hug.

6. Friends who are there for you even when they don't want to be

Most people have the mind set of "once I'm in bed, I'm not getting out until tomorrow." But if you call a friend at 3AM in need of help and they answer the phone? You've got a loyal friend. Even if it's just advice via text message. They dropped their plans of sleep and comfort to make sure that you were ok.

7. Friends who surprise you

Maybe it's a surprise party, or something as simple and random as a text saying "have a good day!" or "love you!". Without any prompting, this friend thought of you and cared enough to act on it. Whether you realize it or not, that's a pretty big deal.

8. Friends you don't have to impress

If you can show up at their house in pj's without make up on, it's real. You shouldn't have to put on a front or try to impress your friends with your life. It's exhausting. If you have friends you feel like you have to impress, get out now.

9. Friends you thought of while reading this

If someone particular came to mind while reading this, hold on to them. Hold on to them and never let them go because they are loyal friends who love you.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
