A Young Man's Goals

As of writing this, I am quietly waiting for my junior year of college to start. Looking back on my life, it's funny to see all the different experiences of my life, and how they shaped me into the man I am today. I still have much to learn though, and I hope with all of my heart that I have enough time in my life to experience the things in life I want to. There are goals in my life which I hold close to my heart. These are things in life that no matter what, I will do my absolute best to achieve.

1. Take my mother to Italy

Might as well start with my cheesiest one. If there's one thing my mother has told me over and over and over and over again, it's how she wants to go to Italy at least once in her life. My mother is my best friend and has done so much for me, that doing this is the ultimate goal in my life. Helping the woman, who helped create your dreams, make her dreams a reality is the best thing I think any child can do for their parent.

2. Lift the Herzog Curse

This one is a doozy. If you could ask all the Herzogs I know if the Herzog Curse is real, they would laugh and tell you to pull up a seat. My family has a very bad history with their lives falling into shambles, with the only two I know who have beaten the curse so far is my mother and me. This one is going to be a long-term goal with multiple steps, but I know I can beat it. I will be the first member of my family to graduate from college, and I will use the knowledge I have from the mistakes of those before me to create a new path for myself and those after me.

3. Have confidence in myself

If you are not very close to me, then you wouldn't know that I'm not the biggest fan of myself. If anything, I'm one of my biggest critics. It's funny though, you wouldn't think that someone who has been described as one of the most outgoing people they've ever met would have confidence issues, but you learn something every day. From my acting ability, to the way I look, to even the way I speak, there's not much I like about myself, but over time and thanks to my friends, I have grown to appreciate some of these things about myself. Unfortunately, I still have those times where I slip and struggle, but you don't build up confidence in a day. I'm still learning and growing, and hopefully, I can get to a point where I can not criticize myself on everything.

4. Be remembered for something

This one is more of a selfish thing, but I want to be known for something. I want for people to look at something and think of me. I'd like to think it'd be through my humor, that maybe I can break through to a bigger stage in life, but maybe it won't be that. Maybe through my dedication to others I will be remembered for being that friend that was there for someone when no one else was, or was there their entire life. I know a goal like this can get twisted into something else, but I just know that I won't feel accomplished in life fully if I don't have at least one person who remembers me when I'm gone.

5. Always expand my goals

Learn to read music, learn to play the piano, write a song, write a play, meet my favorite artist, find my real talent...The thing about life is that it holds so much. I feel like if I don't constantly find new things to push myself, then I am not truly living. That's why I'm constantly expanding my goals, to make sure I don't stay complacent. Why stop once I accomplish a few goals? That's more time for more goals. Life is here for us to take advantage of, don't let it slip by.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
