How To Choose Opportunity

You want to, but can you?

How To Choose Opportunity
Yvanna Giselle Hammen-Álvarez

I’ve wanted to travel the world my whole life. There hasn’t been a moment in my life where I didn’t want to travel somewhere. Whether it was twenty miles north from my home or two thousand miles east, exploring the world is something I’ve yearned for.

All of a sudden, I have opportunities to do so! I have two wonderful opportunities to travel the world: one to beautiful Biblical lands afar and the other to anywhere in the world where I can stay as a student missionary. If willingness and fervor alone were to support my going, I would have no reservations whatsoever! But, disappointingly, that’s not reality.

I am more stressed about the expense over those two opportunities than any other expense. University life is expensive enough without adding extra costs to it. Well then, I’m at a crossroads. I want to go and I know I could learn a lot and I know I could be a lot of good help and change the world even! (I believe anyone and everyone has this potential.) On the other side, though, is the expense. No matter how much I wish it weren’t so, this world is driven by money and money alone. Everything this society/planet strives for has to do with monetary value. How I wish it were not so!

There is a solution, however, to my situation. There is one source that can supply all the needs I have: financially, physically, mentally, emotionally, and physically.

It sounds too good to be true, right? Well, it’s not. It is possible.

Because, with our heavenly Father, God, all things are possible. ALL THINGS. He is unstoppable. And if He wants me to do either or both of these wonderful and exciting opportunities, then He will make the way. How can I believe that? It’s not like He’s going to wave His little, magic wand and a pile of resources will appear. No, of course not! That’s not the way He works. He works in amazing ways that are realistic, not novelistic. I cannot explain how He is going to pull me through these things, but if I grow in faith in Him and simply trust Him completely (I say simply because it truly is simpler than we make it out to be, but that topic alone could be an entirely different article) to be in control of all my situations I know He will guide me to what is best for me. Granted, it may not be what I want at the moment and that is simply because He has something greater in store for me in the long run.

If you are struggling with a similar issue, well, there you are. Pray for guidance and prayerfully read the Bible to find out exactly what it is that you need to hear. I encourage you to do so and I encourage you on your path as well!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
