You Know You're From Syracuse When...

Bleed Orange!

You Know You're From Syracuse When...
Syracuse University

1. Orange isn’t just for Halloween.

When in the 'Cuse, almost everybody owns an orange Syracuse shirt. Due to the fact that the main university’s mascot is a giant orange (we love you Otto,) everyone from Syracuse bleeds orange all year round.

2. Your love for Wegman’s is unreal.

It's the mecca of all grocery stores. Whether you go to get your groceries for the week or dinner for the night, you’re bound to run into someone you know. People may think, "What’s so great about a grocery store?" Well, it’s like Disneyland, but for grocery stores. It has everything anybody going to the store could ever need. Plus, their bakery is pretty great too…

3. Lacrosse isn’t just a sport; it's a culture.

With SU, having such a well-respected program means a lot. When it comes to lax, a lot of people in the upstate area who play the sport look up to the players at Cuse in hopes of one day being where they are. Some may say it’s just an “upstate thing” to be so involved with the sport, but with the area producing incredible players such as the Gait brothers, the Powell brothers, and many other admirable players, it’s no wonder the dome draws massive crowds when the season rolls around.

4. You used to think it would be scary to Drive on 690, but now it's cake.

Okay, this one may just be me, but I know that before I got my license, I was petrified of driving on 690. I used to think it was crazy for people to go that fast in the area…I was scared to move into the lane I needed to be in…I wish I was kidding. But now to really get anywhere around here, 690 is the way to go, and once you conquer that, you can conquer anything.

5. You have a love/hate relationship with Destiny.

I love the mall, but there are some people who absolutely hate that place. With many stores that appeal to a wide range of people, it can be too overwhelming for some. With restaurants like The Melting Pot, Cheesecake Factory, and PF Chang's and attractions such as Revolution's, Wonder Works, and Pole Position Raceway, many can argue that Destiny is more of a tourist attraction than a shopping mall.

6. You can have all four seasons in one day.

Everyone from Syracuse can agree that the weather here is extremely unpredictable. There have been days when it can snow in the morning, be 70 by lunch time, see some leaves falling off trees when you leave work, and be raining when you go to bed.

7. The Crunch isn’t just a candy bar.

Hockey fan or not, a Syracuse Crunch game is always a fun event for any sports lover.

8. Everyone says they hate the fair, but end up going.

Say what you want about the fair…how the crowds are too much, the people are too much, all that stuff. You still probably end up going. The food, the attractions, the concerts, etc. The people of Syracuse either love it and look forward to getting their fried dough or dread when the end of August rolls around.

9. People Judge You Based On the High School You Went To

ESM, FM, JD, CBA, Henniger, Corcoran. Doesn’t matter where you went, people judge you based on the high school you attended. It might be because every school in the Syracuse area is extremely competitive when it comes to athletics, but some high school rivalries carry on well after graduation.

10. Tully isn’t just a town.

“Wanna go to Tully’s?” is a common text sent between my friends and I almost every week when everyone is home from college. Tenders, chicken wing dip, cookie monsters and some good sports, Tully’s is always a go to place for anybody looking for a good bite to eat.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
