23 Things You Know If You Grew Up In Gunnison, Colorado
Meghan Wiedelman

Gunnison Colorado is a little town located on the Western slope of the Rocky Mountains. In it, is Western State Colorado University. After living on campus, we have created a list only people who have lived, or currently live in Gunnison will understand.

You Know You Live in Gunnison When...

1. You play a game called "spot the tourist."

2. Your ground is actually 1-foot above the cement.

3. Ski boots and a winter coat are acceptable to wear just across campus.

4. You use cross country skis to get across campus.

5. You are pissed that class was cancelled because you can actually walk in the three feet of snow.

6. The temperature can be above 40 degrees and you think "heat wave."

7. The temperature can be 2 degrees above freezing and a light jacket is all you need.

8. You see a large piece of cardboard and imagine sledding with it.

9. You go home and people complain about the cold and your first thought is "I live in a freeze hole."

10. You come back to campus and realize that the snow is higher than your hips and your car can longer be located.

11. You realize that you don't really need the car anyway.

12. You are willing to drive 45 minutes or more just to go to a chain restaurant.

13. You need sunglasses to not be blinded just to go to class.

14. Icicles look absolutely terrifying.

15. Professors are okay with you being 20 minutes late because the parking lot is a shit hole.

16. You can bring random rocks to class and the professor thinks nothing of it.

17. There is nothing open past 9:00 so every date has to include a trip to Wal-Mart.

18. It is so cold that the INSIDE window of your car needs to be scraped.

19. A bottle of soda becomes a slushy after half an hour outside.

20. Crested Butte is the most recognizable landmark... it's still half an hour away.

21. Everything is within walking distance when there is no snow.

22. "Homework Parties" are accepted as being social.

And finally...

23. You wake up on a weekend, and can't figure out what to do with yourself (other than go find snow).

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
