You Know You Did Spring Sing When...

It's a love/hate relationship.

You Know You Did Spring Sing When...
Hannah Perdew

Spring Sing is the competition of the year that we all love to hate. Through the hours upon hours of practice and the late nights and the occasional mental breakdowns, you’ve grown to love the team you’re a part of and the sisterhood you represent even more.

1. You add up the number of hours you’ve practiced over the last few months just for fun.

2. You run through your routine and mark your motions everywhere: the shower, laying in bed, at work, in class.

3. You’ve heard “YASSSS SLAY THAT” at least 1,000 times at practice.

4. Your coaches say “BE SHARPER” after every run through, even though you feel like your arms are going to fall off from how hard you're squeezing.

5. Your legs have welts from cleaning so hard.

6. When people tell you that your routine looked awesome after the show and your just like...

But on the inside, you want to cry tears of joy because you're so happy they loved it.

7. “I don’t need to go to the gym today, I have practice” is a thought that crosses your mind every day.

8. “Sorry, I can’t; I have Spring Sing practice".... LOL what's a social life during Spring Sing season?

9. Your bed time has slowly but surely moved to 3 am because late night Spring Sing practices mean 1am-3am are primary homework hours.

10. You had to use a half a bottle of conditioner to wash out your competition day hair.

11. You hear a song that’s in your routine and you automatically break out in dance in public because coaches said “full out” every time the music is on.

12. When you go out in public after the show in your performance hair and makeup and receive all kinds of crazy looks from strangers that think you probably look like a crazy person all the time.

13. You can hear your coaches yelling “ARMS!!! TIGHTER ARMS!” in your sleep.

14. When Spring Sing is over and you’re confused what you’re supposed to do with all of this free time now.

15. Competition day is a constant string of “Are my eyelashes falling off?” and “Is there lipstick on my teeth?”

16. You’ve heard your coaches say, “NOTHING GOES OFF THE STAGE OR POINT DEDUCTIONS!” a thousand times.

17. Your worst nightmare is falling off the stage. Not because you could get hurt, but because you can’t get back on to finish the routine. Sometimes you even dream about this at night and wake up screaming.

18. The struggle is deciding who gets stuck carrying the props and backdrops on and off stage.

19. Your camera roll is full of selfies of your kick ass makeup.

20. As soon as you walk out of the final competition at Diddle, you wonder if it's okay to start counting down the days until next year.

21. Your Spring Sing bag consists of: hairspray, an insane amount of bobby pins, spandex, glitter, and more hairspray.

22. There were several occasions where you were ready to jump ship and disown some of your sisters.

21. You realize that Spring Sing has been the time of your life and that you have grown to love each of your sisters a little more... but mostly you’re not sure what you’re supposed to do when you don’t get to spend hours and hours with them everyday anymore.

There you have it, my friends. Here’s to Greek Week 2016!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
