The long-awaited "Full House" reboot, "Fuller House," was released on February 26 on Netflix. The show brings back much of the original cast of "Full House," including Bob Saget, John Stamos, Dave Couiler, Lori Loughlin, Candace Cameron, Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber. But there was one essential face missing. Well, actually two.
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who both played Michelle Tanner in the original series, did not return for the first season of "Fuller House." The twins' reasoning for not returning for the reboot stems from their time away from showbiz. Ashley Olsen said, "I have not been in front of a camera since I was 17, and I don't feel comfortable acting." Mary Kate said that the timing is bad for them right now. Ultimately, the Olsens decided not to participate because they feel they are in a different place in their life right now.
The show did not take long to address the missing faces of "Full House." Just four minutes into the first episode older sister Stephanie Tanner, played by Jodie Sweetin, asks where her younger sister is. Their father, Bob Saget, responds that she sends her love but is "too busy running her fashion empire." The returning cast then broke the fourth wall, looked at the camera for a full thirteen seconds and threw the best shade I have ever seen.
That's not even where the shade ended. In the seventh episode, "Ramona's Not So Epic Party", Kimmy Gibbler's (Andrea Barber) daughter buys a dress made by Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. Gibbler says something along the lines of "At these prices, no wonder they don't need to act anymore."
This shade hasn't stopped the rumors that MK and Ash will be joining the cast for season two of "Fuller House." The show was renewed for another season only a week after it was released. John Stamos, who acts in and produces "Fuller House," is still hopeful that the twins will join the cast. In an interview with Today, Stamos said, "The twins are totally welcome. We would love to have them. I know everyone would love to see them." He even confessed to thinking about going to see the twins and begging them to be on the show. He added he has a good feeling about at least one of the twins returning.
While Michelle Tanner was certainly missed in the first season of "Fuller House," it is comforting that producers like John Stamos are optimistic about seeing the youngest Tanner sister back in San Francisco. I just hope that if they decide to join the "Fuller House" cast that they can look past all the shade.
