Good ol' New Year's Resolutions: every year they're made, and every year they're broken.
Even though it's only been 2018 for about a week, there are so many people that have already broken their resolutions. Every year there's a big celebration, and everyone swears that this year will be different, and they will make big changes to their lifestyle, even though most things stay the same.
Every 1st of January, I get very excited and start planning out how this year is going to be different than last year, write down a list of resolutions, and then never look at that list again. While sometimes I'm able to change some of my habits that I wanted to from last year, most of the time nothing really changes about me. If you've already given up on your New Year's Resolutions, don't feel bad; these resolutions were made to be broken.
If you make New Year's resolutions and break them almost immediately every year, you're not alone. If you really want to change things about your life, you don't need a new year to make a change. While at the start of the year the motivation to try and make a change is there, it doesn't last for long. Don't make resolutions for the sake of the New Year; make resolutions because you actually want to make a change in your life.
New Year's Resolutions aren't something that you should be so hung up on not accomplishing. They should be things that inspire you to do better, not be something that is holding you back from feeling happiness.
When coming up with resolutions in the future, start small. It's easier to go to the gym one day a week, instead of trying to convince yourself that since it's a new year, you have to go to the gym five days a week to feel that you're achieving your goals.
Even if you've already broken your resolutions for this year, there's no reason that you shouldn't try again later in the year, or with a more important/achievable goal. There's no reason why you shouldn't be able to start making changes in your life at any time of year or even any time of the month. Don't wait for a new year, new month, or new day to try something new. Try it when you want to.
Don't let not achieving something keep you from feeling happiness, and don't let the start of a new year be the only time that you can start something new.
