Every year new years comes around and every year we all make a resolution, this vows to change some aspect of ourselves. But nine times out of 10 it is forgotten about once January ends and we are back to our same routines and back to the thing we vowed to end. Sometimes its vowing to work out more, or to eat healthier or to even just be a better person. But why do we need the New Year to make these vows to ourselves, why can’t we just decide to break a bad habit during the year.
Yes, with the New Year comes a new beginning and all that stuff but it does not mean that with this new year comes a new person. One is still the same person they were on December 31st as they are on January 1st. That one number change in the year does not change who we are.
So, this year instead of making a resolution that will ultimately never happen, I’m just going to live the same as I have been. And if sometime during the year I wish to change one of my habits then I will change it when that time comes. But I won’t go into the new year trying to be a new person, because yes, we all that “new year, new me” but it rarely happens. And then we get disappointed because that resolution that we were so determined to keep fell through and we spend a few days mourning it. This way I wouldn’t be disappointed when I fall through on my resolution, instead, it gives me more time to see if I really do need to change anything about myself and if I do then I will change it when the time comes and not give it a time frame.
So, this year just give it a try, don’t make a New Year’s resolution. Just be the person that you are and if you so wish to change a habit then do it at your own pace and at your own time. No matter what everyone else does and how many resolutions you see on your timeline, be different this year. Say no to a New Year's resolution.
