I'm A Writer, It's What I Do

Writing is more than just a pen and paper.

I'm A Writer, It's What I Do
McKenzie E. Lanter

When I write, it's when I feel the most like myself. A notebook is where I sort out all the things that are going on around me. The good, the bad, the sweet, the ugly. Drastic changes have happened in my life but my love and passion for writing have stayed the same. Life can get so busy but the passion never fades away.

My wish as a writer is to use the skills of writers before me, be able to tell my story and help the writers after me, grow and to influence them. I have influenced people through my words, my writings whether it be relatable to them or not. Every work I write has a piece of me because, in that moment of writing, those thoughts and feelings were real. Writing has helped me overcome things, reevaluate decisions I probably wouldn't have, made me a better person, but most importantly, I feel like it has made me such a stronger person. I take my emotions and make something beautiful out of them. There is just something about the contact between a pen and a notebook, something special. The kind of thing that could help change lives if you let it.

Someone can take just anything and write about it but what's truly powerful is when a someone can make an emotional connection to something, imagine themselves in a different situation just for the sake of a story and that same story be able to change the lives, spark emotions in the hearts of people that read it. And that is powerful. Writing can help transform people into better versions of themselves like it has me. A phrase can tell the biggest story. A symbol can explain someone's life struggles. Certain words have the ability to make you feel something deep within your soul. When writing, word choice is key. One word could speak to someone, have the power to bring someone to tears. Words work as a chain reaction.

I suggest writing freely, at the end of it all no one has been there for you like you've been for yourself. Thought the same thoughts every second of the day, you will be the only one to truly be able to walk in your shoes. No one is going to tell your story like you do. People have the power to do what they please by the words they use to write the story of their life. You don't have to do it for anyone else just write for yourself. One day you'll be able to look back on how you felt on a certain day, in a certain situation, and be glad you made it to where you are today. Write to spark old emotions, making them feel new again. Reflect on those emotions. Write about your growth. How you prospered from past experiences. How you've been brought through the valleys of the shadows of death.

It takes strong writers to make a change in this world. And I would be lying if I said that I did not want to be that kind of writer. The one who takes bittersweet/heartbreaking situations and turn them into something truly beautiful. I write my stories to change the lives of others. Letting them know they are not alone. If my life can help someone I want to let that happen. I'll be writing when I'm old and gray. I'll write until I have lost the ability to do so. If you have come across my writings and you've related to my life then you are not in this world alone. A part of me is a part of you. At the end of it all I'm a writer it's what I do.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
