I. Introductory Paragraph

a. Hook: Do you think Common Core is good for schools?

b. Background information: The Common Core state standards provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them. the standards are designed to be relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers. With American students fully prepared for the future, our communities will be best positioned to compete successfully in the global economy.

IV. Third Body Paragraph

a. With common core comes the limitation of our teachers.

And much like No Child Left Behind, the program promises national testing and a one-size-fits-all education, because, hey, it worked so well the first time." -Ethan Young

d. Explain/analyze quote

e. One more explanation sentence

f. By using their money to control the states the government has force fed “Race to the Top” to the people to justify their actions.

VII. Sixth Body Paragraph

a. The slogan ‘Race to the Top’ is a ploy to make the common person believe that common core is going to push education to the highest standard, but in reality it is just leveling the playing field in public schools.

b. Intro to a quote/paraphrase

c. “My theory on common core is this: politicians' kids go to private schools where they are taught the normal way. With common core in public school, which is where middle class and impoverished kids attend, children going to be a mass increase in dropouts and poor grades. Making it harder for those kids to get into good colleges and get good jobs all the while their kids pass with flying colors because they are not doing common core. Keeping the elite with the elite. Meaning the politicians' kids will continue to be politicians. Common core is a weapon to keep poor people poor. And anyone that can get through it, well that's why they call it 'race to the top', right?"

- Emma Jean Sandy

d. Explain/analyze quote

e. One more explanation sentence

f. Regardless of the reasons the government has pushed common core onto public schools it remains obvious that they are trying to take over where ever they can.

VIII. Conclusion

a. Common Core classes in college should be terminated because it causes unnecessary stress, more money having to be paid for classes not part of their degree, and time consumption from classes that are for you major/minor.

b. Summarizing point 1

c. Summarizing point 2

d. Summarizing point 3

e. Summarizing entire essay

f. Is common core really fair across the board, or is it just a ploy to make us lose our uniqueness?

I hope this was helpful and I will be back with part three next week.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
