There comes a time when you find yourself at Target, wandering through the clothes section and through the aisles. You try on clothing items just because you can. You randomly pickup things that you want but know you don't need. You spend your time looking at all of the displays saying things like "When I get older and have a house, this is how it's going to be decorated. Maybe not in white, but like this."
You wander into the patio and garden section, even though you don't have a patio, and sit in every lawn chair to see how comfortable it is. You look at the electronics you want, read the cover of every book that looks interesting, look at all of the school supplies and planners that you would probably never use. You may even wander into the children's section just to point at small pieces of clothing and say "how cute!"
Target is a whole world on its own, and you have gotten lost in it. Probably more than once.
Don't worry, it doesn't only happen to you.
But have you ever wondered why? Why do people spend so much time at Target, especially when other stores offer the same products at cheaper prices?
I, in particular, go to Target when I'm bored or when I'm procrastinating. Being there is just so nice.
I can contemplate buying a nail polish from my favorite brand for as long as I want. If an employee comes around, they'll probably ask if I need help. This is probably one of the reasons why you don't mind just hanging around for a few hours. The staff is always nice and helpful, and they appear to be knowledgeable and ready to answer your questions. There is always someone around attempting to organize the messes customers leave behind. While employees at other stores do their jobs too, they don't always seem as accommodating.
The vibe in Target is much better than it is in other stores, in general. Maybe it's the carpet. It tricks you into feeling like you're at home. The employees keep the store and bathrooms well-maintained so maybe it's that Target just feels cleaner and less cluttered.
There are actual displays, which catch your attention and make you want things. Other stores simply place an item on top of stacked boxes which customers can take. This is handy because you don't have to go on a scavenger hunt to find what you're looking for, but ultimately, you want something that you can see in your house.
That may be why Target is more appealing. Its displays and the comfort that we feel allow us to envision the kind of things we want to surround ourselves with and the kind of lives we want to lead. Target's displays and comfort distract us and make us happy.
Next time you're at Target, you'll probably ask yourself if you really need something, and even if you don't, you'll probably buy it anyway. I'm all for long visits to Target, but maybe you shouldn't go if you're trying to save money.
