A Word To Those Who Think Dog Faces Are Slutty

Apparently, the Snapchat dog face filter is not adorable?

So I’m about to rant.

Snapchat released a series of “selfie filters” a few months ago that quickly became all the rage. The filters are meant to do all kinds of weird and cool things to an otherwise ordinary picture of one’s face.

Some of the popular filters include an aging filter, giving your face wrinkles, holiday specific filters, applying Happy (insert holiday here) words to your face along with celebratory apparel, the Face Swap, which switches you and another person’s faces, and a series of weird facial contortions.

Snapchat occasionally updates the app, applying new filters to experiment with and laugh about. In the end, it’s just a silly app to make your face look silly to enjoy a good laugh with your friends.

Right?

It was, until the dog filter came out.

Snapchat released a filter that applies dog-ears and a dog nose to your face, and when you open your mouth, a big pink dog tongue comes barreling out of your mouth. It’s cute, I mean, it’s a dog. But for some strange reason, a reason I will never understand, this filter became known as slutty.

Can someone explain? A lot of people, both men and women, had fun with this filter. I mean, it makes you look like a dog. That’s adorable. It’s the most adorable thing a person can do to their face. What’s cuter than a person who looks like a dog? But for some reason, men began targeting women who used the filter, and began deeming it the “slutty dog filter.”

Memes were released like this:

For the life of me, I can’t understand it. It’s a dog. Can someone explain??

But then, men got even more creative and realized female dogs have a certain name:

Lovely right?! All this over some ears.

Basically, the whole thing is a misogynistic attack on women over a DOG FACE. And if we really want to get into Snapchat in general, the app is designed so that the photo disappears within a few seconds. If she really wanted to, a girl could pretty safely send a crude photo that will disappear, but instead, she is sending a picture of her face looking like a DOG! But no, it’s THAT photo that makes her a hoe or a slut or a thot. Because men ask women to send crude photos, and never call her a slut if she complies, but dog face selfies…those are just plain slutty.

I’m so tired of it-- male-created insults about females that make no sense whatsoever.

And of course, now there’s the floral crown filter, which already has men talking too. All this one does is put flowers on your head. That’s all. And I’ve already seen news about how it’s the “new dog”.

Girls, take a picture of your face as a dog. Take a picture of your face as a panda (they have that filter now and it's interesting to say the least.) Take a picture of your face with the floral crown, and take a picture of your face with the weird ones that make you look like an alien.

People will always have something to say about you, so just stop caring, and say cheese.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
