I'm sure most, if not all women who work in retail or food service (or any job, for that matter) have experienced the occasional creepy man attempting to flirt, compliment, or make small talk with them while they were at work.
"You have the most beautiful eyes."
"How old are you? Can I get your number?"
"You're so tall, you must play sports with long legs like that."
"You have a beautiful smile."

I think what makes us feel so uneasy about these interactions is that they are unprovoked and uncalled for. We are literally just trying to work, here. So why do they feel the need to say anything at all? What do they think they're going to gain from it? Just say hi, pay for your items, and go.
