I Am A Christian

I am just a Christian girl trying to make it through this crazy world.

I Am A Christian

I am a Christian.

Let me say that again, “I am a Christian.” Being almost 21 years old and saying that out loud will really get you some funny looks in this day and age. I don't drink, I've never tried drugs, I don't “party,” and I'm good with that. I stay true to who I am called to be. 1 Timothy 4:12 states, “Let no one look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in your speech, conduct, love, faithfulness, and purity.” I am setting my example for others, while doing so, I hope that I am planting seeds in their hearts by my actions in standing up and out in my faith.

Being a Christian has been difficult in this crazy world. But these difficult times have made me realize that the struggles only make you stronger and that your faith will be with you throughout all of these trials. But knowing how I am supposed to act and portray myself, I have had to choose friends wisely. Two of my very best friends are Christians and they share the same values I do. It's easier to be friends with someone when you have such things in common. They never question why we don't go to the beach early on a Sunday morning. Yes, we attend different churches of different denominations, but we all knew that we could find each other at church early Sunday morning. If we wanted to do something on Sunday, it would always be after church, like lunch with each other or going to the mall. We respect each other in ways so many young women today do not. It's also easy to shop with girls who share your taste in modest clothing. Conversations are better when you are not censoring yourself so you are not saying something that offends the other. They also have never questioned why I have my Bible in my car and beside my bed.

I attend a faith-based college. Judson College to be exact. A college that encourages and helps me grow in my faith. I'm surrounded by girls who love me and who believe the same thing I do. Yes, it is a women’s college. No, that doesn't bother me. Most days you don't even notice because college is suppose to be focused on your studies. Judson was my first and, really, my only choice and I truly believe God made it possible for me to attend Judson. I never doubted He would open this door for me. I never doubted my family would help me walk through it. I just believed.

Finding what I consider suitable clothes is sometimes a challenge. Modest doesn't mean unattractive. I see no reason to show my butt cheeks or my cleavage. There are suitable stores that meet my love for fashion and feed my clothes habit, like Loft and Dillard's. Who doesn't love a great dress and a pair of shoes!?

Being a Christian doesn't mean I am a pushover. It helps me see conflicts in a way some young people don't. It means seeing the value in myself and standing up for what I believe.

I am a Christian and I am a young, modern woman making my way through life following my convictions and faith. Both define me. Two sides to the same coin.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
