9 Reasons I Wish I Could be Transported Back to the 80's

I'll be waiting on the invention of a time machine, doing the electric slide in my bedroom and teasing my hair as big as it can be.

In case you weren't already aware, the 80's were a fantastic time to be alive! I, of course, do not speak from experience, seeing as I am a 90's baby. But, I speak from an intense desire to hop into a time machine and be transported back to the golden age of the 1980's. Sadly, the invention of the time machine has not yet come to fruition, so instead I will present you with a simple list of reasons why we all wish we were alive in the 80's.

1. Working out was fun in the 80's.

Long before Crossfit and #postworkout mirror pics were trendy, Richard Simmons, Olivia Newton John, and Body By Jake ruled the aerobics scene. If those leotards, tights, and leg warmers don't make you want to work out, I don't know what will!

2. Mixtapes.

"I made you a Spotify playlist" just doesn't have the same romantic ring to it as, "I made you a mixtape" does. I certainly know I've dreamed of a day when my love would give me a mixtape he poured his heart into, complete with songs that reminded him of me.

3. Seeing iconic 80's movies in the theater.

Watching "The Breakfast Club" on BluRay just isn't the same as I imagine it would be watching it in the theater when it premiered in 1985. Who wouldn't want to be amongst the original viewers of "Dirty Dancing," "Ghostbusters," and "Back to the Future?"

4. Patrick Swayze.

Every guy wanted to be him, and every girl wanted to be with him. Not only did he rock the mullet, but he also dominated the dance floor. Rest In Peace Patrick.

5. The best dancing music of all time.

So many iconic musicians came out of the 80's: Madonna, Whitney, Michael Jackson, Cyndi Lauper, and Prince (to name a few). You're lying to yourself and everyone else if 80's music doesn't make you want to get up and do the moon walk or the cabbage patch.

6. Voluminous hair.

Most people who lived in the 80's look back at old photographs and say "What was I thinking?!" when they see their wild hairstyles. However, I personally envy the amount of volume men and women alike were able to attain and I am still waiting for the comeback of the wonderful hairstyles of the 80's.

7. The original MTV.

Before "16 and Pregnant" and "Real World", MTV actually aired what it stood for, Music Television. Ironically enough, the first music video to ever premiere on MTV was The Buggles' "Video Killed The Radio Star." Don't we all wish we still had classic MTV, a channel that played only the top music videos, instead of playing some of the most controversial shows on television.

8. Cool cars.

The Lamborghinis, BMWs, and Porsches of today do not simply compare to those of the 80's. If you want to talk about the ultimate cool car, let's talk about the BMW 3 series of the 80's.

9. An "anything goes" fashion attitude.

In the 80's, everyone wore what they wanted! You're crazy if you don't totally envy Madonna's over accessorized and over the top fashion choices. So throw a scrunchie in your hair, pull your sweatshirt off one shoulder, and put on every piece of jewelry you own!

What is not to love about the 1980's? It's simply the best decade of all time! I'll be waiting on the invention of a time machine, but until then you know where to find me: doing the electric slide in my bedroom while rocking out to "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" and teasing my hair as big as it can be teased.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
