10 Thoughts I Had While Getting My Wisdom Teeth Removed

Ok, disclaimer: I was not put under, aka given any general anesthesia. Instead, I got local. And let me tell you, that was possibly one of the worst decisions I've ever made in my life.

Another disclaimer: I only had one of my wisdom teeth taken out. Which can be seen as a good/bad thing depending on the way you look at it. 1. I only had to suffer through it for 1 hour and 2. I am going to have to go through that experience again, and it might be with local anesthesia too.

So here are the 5 thoughts that I remember from this traumatizing experience:

1. Shots should be the most painful thing from this experience right?

Also literally what one of the dental assistants were telling me. But nope couldn't be farther from the truth.

2. Is it normal to be feeling this much pressure??

Like is it normal for you to be using this much brute force? To literally be pushing down with all your might??

3. Okay he's yanking...still yanking...oh and now he's back in with the drill

I am very uncomfortable with how I can feel my tooth being taken out from its socket little by little

4. Should I ask for a break?? Or like continue to stare at the blinding overhead light?

I won't seem like a wimp if i do right?

5. UHHH is that BLOOD going through that tube?

One second I'm staring straight ahead, next my eyes shift to the left and all I can see is all that blood going through that tube.

6. Okay, don't cry, don't cry it's almost over this only takes about an hour

This was literally the most terrifying part for me, being real here. Hearing the drill go off, followed by them yanking as hard as they could and then some dental students looking over their shoulders. Got to say I really had to hold some tears with how nervous/scared I was feeling.

7. *seeing them take the tooth out of my mouth* uhhh that's one really big tooth...

Annddd that's really gross. Especially with how that was in my mouth. I almost wanted to start crying (again, I know) with relief that they were finally taking it out. Not to be dramatic or anything but that experience literally felt like it took 3 hours.

8. I swear if they redo the stitches one more time I am literally going to slap someone

Aren't you guys dentists? Or at least done this a couple of times? Literally, it shouldn't take 5 tries to get started on the stitch.

9. Can you PLEASE not put that much pressure on my jaw/gums with that scapula thing??

I was honestly on the verge of slapping someone's hand here. Like I know you're a dental student, but was it really necessary to dig that deep with your tool into my very sensitive gums?

10. *dentist saying that I got 3 more wisdom teeth left to go* haha bish no

Literally don't even talk to me right now...

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
