Winter, my favorite season. The bitter, cold wind and the beautiful white snow makes me feel at home. It's a nostalgic time for myself and my family. When I talk about winter, I talk about my dad wearing a Santa hat on Christmas morning. My grandfather's German Shepard puppy experiencing snow for the first time. I talk about learning how to ski and snowboard at Boyne Mountain, baking cookies with my mother as the bright winter sun of the afternoon shines through our kitchen window, and watching the setting sun while my sister and I stand on a frozen lake in Northern Michigan. Many people dread this time of year, with reason. The cold, dark evenings, early setting sun, harsh weather, stressful holiday events, and deep end of the year reflection. But out of all these negative associations of winter, it comes with positives. The muting quality of snow creates a blissful atmosphere in empty quiet streets everywhere. The falling snow cleanses the world in a way, aiding our transitions into the coming new year. We are usually left either alone to experience the beauty of the season or surrounded by family members. Following below is a visual compilation of past winters and my select favorite moments from the season.
