Sunday Feb. 28 marks the 88th Academy Awards, or as many people refer to it, the Oscars. Just like every year, many talented people in the film industry are nominated for these prestigious awards, but none other sticks out quite like Leonardo DiCaprio.
For the past 25 years, DiCaprio has been wowing audiences with his on-screen performances. Whether he is acquiring hypothermia while filming this year’s “The Revenant” or powering through an injury during a scene in Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained," Leo always goes the extra mile for his characters. So with the talent that he has, why hasn’t he won yet?
This question baffles many cinema fans. In fact, Leo not winning an Oscar has become such a common occurrence that is has become sort of a joke. DiCaprio has been nominated four times for “Best Actor in a Leading Role” and once for “Best Supporting Actor” and each time he has lost to an actor who had the performance of their lifetime and has not continued to produce these performances like Leo has time and time again.
However, these actors that he is losing out to are not bad actors. Names include Forrest Whitaker, Jamie Foxx, and Matthew McConaughey. All of these actors pose tremendous amounts of talent, but none quite like Leo.
Like every other year, this year’s competition will be tough for DiCaprio. He is competing for “Best Actor” against four other great actors such as Bryan Cranston, Matt Damon, Michael Fassbender and last year’s winner Eddie Redmayne.
While Leo does have the fans on his side, ultimately it will be up to The Academy whether or not DiCaprio will finally get this prestigious award.
