"Wicked" is having it's 15th anniversary this month and it is becoming a whole event. If you don't know, "Wicked" is a Broadway musical that follows the young lives of Elphaba and Glinda i.e. The Wicked Witch of the West and The Good Witch from "The Wizard of Oz." The musicals follow their lives at school, how they meet each other, their friendship, meeting the Wizard and how Elphaba became the Wicked Witch of the West.
This is a truly phenomenal show and no matter how many times you see it, it is always such an amazing experience. I have seen this show three times and am about to see it for the fourth time in November! From touring casts to Broadway, this show constantly astounds me.
Now, this is the best thing. So this year marks 15 years since "Wicked" premiered on Broadway and NBC is creating a whole 15-year anniversary show for it. The show is going to bring back the original cast with Kristen Chenoweth as Glinda and Idina Menzel as Elphaba reprising their famous roles as the witches of Oz. The anniversary show will also include the current cast, Pentatonix, Ariana Grande and many more to help celebrate the beauty and wonder of this show. It is going to ai on Monday, Oct. 29th at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
Now I know it can be crazy expensive sometimes to try and go see a Broadway show or a touring version of a Broadway show, but if you ever get the chance to go and see this show live. I highly recommend it because this show is definitely worth it. If you are unsure of whether or not you actually would want to pay for tickets to go see it. I recommend listening to the album and definitely checking out the anniversary show because you are missing out.
I cannot praise this show more, from something that so many people already love to amazing costumes, from an incredible score to a heartwarming story. "Wicked" is a musical for the whole family and it is something that everyone will love and enjoy! Especially with the anniversary this month, why not get your feet wet and step into something new and magical!
There are so many wonderful things surrounding this musical and especially with the anniversary, there are even limited edition Barbies that have been released to accompany the anniversary! Even if you aren't a fan of musicals, take a step out of your comfort zone and check this out! Also if you love "The Wizard of Oz," this show gives a really interesting insight into what life was like in Oz before Dorothy showed up! There may even be a special surprise towards the end of the show as a nod to the part of Oz that we all know and love!
So don't be afraid to defy gravity, dance through life and take a trip in a bubble and visit the witches of Oz.
