If you care about entertainment and theater at all, you've probably already heard that the musical Wicked is receiving its own film adaption. The movie has been confirmed and was recently given a release date of December 2019.
Many sources have already staked their claims and placed their bets on which actresses and actors they think would make the best Wicked cast of all time, so I thought I would put my two cents into the mix.
The Wizard - Aaron Tveit
Aaron Tviet has definitely spent his share of time on Broadway and made appearances in the film adaption of Les Miserables as Enjolras and in Grease Live as Danny Zuko. He's a familiar face for theatre-loving millennials and has a fantastic voice to go with it. As the Wizard, Tveit will have to branch out a bit. Instead of being the suave hero, he will be the cunning man you love to hate.
Elphaba - Lea Michele
We all know Lea Michele best as Rachel Berry from FOX's Glee. We've already seen her perform these numbers and we know she's phenomenal. Many other sources have already suggested her for the role and I wholeheartedly agree. Her striking resemblance both physically and vocally to Idina Menzel is in her favor. Watching Lea Michelle as Elphaba would be like watching a young Menzel play the part she was destined for. Lea Michele is the closest to the original that we're going to get, folks! But she would definitely add her own spark to the role just like she did for her character Rachel Berry.
Galinda - Ariana Grande
Again, other sources have already suggested her for the role. At first, I was skeptical. I knew that she had a big voice, but I was so used to her pop vocals that I wasn't sure she could pull off the role of Galinda. My first thought was honestly Chris Colfer who played Kurt in Glee. He sang those songs so well on the show! But I figured they'd probably want a female to play the role of Galinda so I was actually considering Julianne Hough because of her previous role with Aaron Tveit in Grease Live. But after watching a few performances by Ariana Grande, I changed my mind. She has a big voice and a sweet face. I think she could tackle the role. She has even stated before how much she loves Wicked and that she would rather play the role of Galinda over Elphaba anyway. So let's just give her the part, amiright?
Although it's a group you wouldn't expect to perform together, I think this could be a great cast for the new Wicked movie. Whoever the casting directors choose, I hope that the actresses and actors live up to the Wicked name and make the wonderful Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel proud.
