It's that time of year again, where the streets are lit up by beaming Christmas lights, and everyone in the South Jersey area cranks up B101. Everyone around me seems to be in a happier mood, even I catch myself feeling happier and more "alive" during this Holiday season. Now despite my feelings towards the cold weather, if it snows, I'm okay with it. Snow is the best view to wake up to in the month of December. The tree branches have a light coating on every branch, the street and grass is blanketed with fresh powder. The sight of snow makes me immediately think of Christmas.
Now don't get me wrong I love receiving gifts as much as the next guy but to me I love giving people gifts that I put thought into and waiting to see their reaction even more. Shopping for people can be tough sometimes but I put a lot of time into this so I get it done. This time of year is when my favorite drink comes out, Eggnog! This is by far my favorite drink I just wish I could find bigger cartons because they usually come in small quarts. My family has a big dinner on Christmas and Eggnog always tops it off perfectly.
Once December 1st hits, that's when I truly get in the Christmas spirit. Many people get ready right after Thanksgiving dinner or even before but I really don't get excited until I see ABC Family's 25 days of Christmas. Elf, The Santa Claus, Polar Express, National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, or even the classics like Rudolph, Frosty the Snowman, etc. All of these movies are perfect for laying in your bed doing nothing but watching these movies and drinking hot chocolate. It doesn't matter how old I am I know I will always watch theses movies and eventually when I get older, the movies I love that are recent, will be shown as "classics" to my children. How could I forget the movie, The Christmas Story. The Christmas Story marathon has been going on for 15 years and is currently a 24 hour marathon ran on TBS. Most families have ever even seen the movie fully through, but it is on in the background all day. I have seen the movie from start to finish probably like 3 times but on Christmas it is the only thing on T.V.
Now Christmas might be mostly about marketing for a lot of companies and retail stores, however, to me and a lot of people I know, this holiday is special and about family. There's a reason we have off of school for a while, to go home and enjoy this time we have. I hope whoever you are reading this, that you have a wonderful Christmas and enjoy the time with your loved ones.
