Why You Should Watch 'Westworld'

Reviewing 'Westworld' Season 1.

If you're looking for a new show to binge this weekend, I'm here to recommend the HBO show Westworld. Currently, there is only one season out, but it's well worth the watch. Fair warning: there is quite a bit of nudity in the series, but it's for a purpose (I think).

Westworld is set in a time where technology has advanced to well past what it is today. The story takes place either in the far future or an alternate reality. The title refers to the amusement park the show revolves around; a hyper-realistic wild west adventure, complete with robotic "hosts" that contribute to the guests' fantasies.

The season opens up with a few of the hosts living their day-to-day lives until guests interfere. When guests chose to shoot or "damage" the hosts, they are taken in for repairs and put back into their cycle for another day in Westworld.

Throughout the season, the question of whether or not the hosts are gaining a conscious or not rises. This series strikes up a lot of interesting discussion on humanity and artificial intelligence. There were plenty of moments where I found myself confused on how I should feel about Westworld's android characters. The show makes it very easy to sympathize with the hosts, despite the human characters constant reassurance that they're "just robots" and "aren't real".

I love action-packed shows that make me think, so Westworld is an instant favorite of mine. I had been craving something sci-fi/fantasy/magical-realism-esque for a while. Needless to say, Westworld gets a 5/5 star rating for me. My only problem is having to wait for season 2!

Poetry On Odyssey: Fireworks

We burn too fast and burn too bright, and we extinguish whatever is left of us.

we are both victims in this era of forgetting

where bodies are nothing but containers for the soul

where feelings can be easily let go and replaced

she's like a rose full of thorns

threatening to hurt those who do her wrong

but her sensitivities hurt those who care

we are both trapped in this prison together

where happy endings would never be a reality

for a moment in time

we were living the dreams

where the concept of time didn't matter

as long as she was by my side

with my heart on her sleeve

but we could never grow old together

she said that perhaps we didn't love hard enough

she's wrong oh so wrong

we are both like fireworks

we burn too fast and burn too bright

and we extinguish whatever is left of us

only leaving behind scarred souls, bruised pride and deceit
