Over the course of time, Greek life has become very popular at many colleges across the US. Whether you are rushing a fraternity or a sorority, it is an easy and exciting way to get involved with your school as well as an interesting way to meet new people and form lifelong friendships.

While I wish I had the knowledge to speak about both sororities and fraternities, I being the man that I am can only speak from the side of fraternities (Sorry ladies).

Anyways, after officially pledging a fraternity at my school, I can say that the process of rushing the existing fraternities at my school was an exhilarating process filled with tons of food and fun. The rushing process treated me very well as I went out and experienced what all fraternities on campus had to offer, met many awesome people, and--after receiving multiple bids--made a difficult decision on what fraternity I would officially come to pledge. I can say that after an exciting two-week period, I believe I made one of the best decisions of my life in choosing to pledge the fraternity I chose.

While this two-week-long process ended well for me, I know not everyone gets the happy ending of receiving a bid from the fraternity they wish to become a part of. Despite this, there is no reason not to check out what your school has to offer. You can never know if you don't try. With that being said, here are a few reasons you should consider rushing fraternities at your school.

1. It's Exhilarating

The process of branching out from your group of friends and meeting new people is always exciting. Some may find themselves shaking with nerves at the prospect of trying to impress groups of guys they wish to become a part of. And that’s okay! Everyone needs to step out of their comfort zone every once in a while. And doing so may leave us vulnerable. But being vulnerable can be an exciting and entertaining experience. So embrace the vulnerability!

2. It’s Fun

Regardless of whether you enjoy the process of meeting new people or not, you are bound to enjoy the various activities that some of the fraternities on your school’s campus offer during rush week. The activities could range anywhere from casual pickup basketball games, bowling, live viewings of football games, or maybe even trips to a pool. Even if you don’t exactly find yourself enjoying these activities, they should at least provide a nice break from the stress of school!

3. The FOOD

“YES! FOOD!” That was my reaction to not having to eat dinner at my school’s cafeteria for two weeks. It should be yours too. Go out and take advantage of the food that is offered during the rushing process. Fraternities realize that people will often go to their events for the food and they often don’t care. So if you don’t even have an interest in rushing, go to the events for the food!

4. To Find Your Future Brotherhood

When I went out and rushed all the fraternities at my school, I did it with a genuine interest in finding a fraternity that was right for me. And I recommend you do too. While I have not seen the full benefits of being in a fraternity just yet, I can say that practically all of those whom I know believed it really enhanced their college experience. Almost every fraternity I visited said this exact quote which I wholeheartedly agree with “Whether you end up choosing us or not, go Greek. Going Greek is something that will change your life.”

5. To See if Going Greek is Right for You

While you already know that I believe going Greek is the way to go, I also understand that going Greek is not for everyone. You may not have time for it as many people are too busy with school, sports, or other extracurricular activities. There also might not be a chapter at your school that appeals to you. Furthermore, you also may not believe that you are meant to go Greek. And that is okay! Many don’t believe that being in a fraternity really does enhance their college experience. The rushing process is the right time to find out if it is right for you or not as you will learn a lot over the course of this exhilarating process.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
