For the longest time, I would see pictures of quotes from the book "Milk and Honey" by Rupi Kaur on Twitter from a poetry account that I follow, and I would always retweet those pictures because I loved them. They always had a strong meaning and I just loved it. I would look up places to get the book but never bought it because I didn't have the money, but I recently (finally) purchased the book and have never been more excited. This book is full of poems and full of meaningful words. "Milk and Honey" is very up and down regarding the poems' moods, but to me, that is what makes it good. I love the book so much and with some quotes from the book, I'm going to show you why.
"the idea that we are so capable of love but still choose to be toxic" (Pg. 23)
"there is no bigger illusion in the world than the idea that a woman will bring dishonor into a home if she tries to keep her heart and her body safe" (Pg. 24)
"i struggle so deeply to understand how someone can pour their entire soul blood and energy into someone without wanting anything in return" -i will have to wait till i'm a mother (Pg 46)
"i am learning how to love him by loving myself" (Pg 55)
"love will come and when love comes love will hold you love will call your name and you will melt sometimes though love will hurt you but love will never mean to love will play no games cause love knows life has been hard enough already" (Pg 60)
"don't mistake salt for sugar if he wants to be with you he will it's that simple" (Pg 85)
"This is where you must understand the difference between want and need you may want that boy but you certainly don't need him" (Pg 86)
"i am a museum full of art but you had your eyes shut" (Pg 100)
"when you are broken and he has left you do not question whether you were enough the problem was you were so enough he was not able to carry it" (Pg 103)
"you cannot leave and have me too i cannot exist in two places at once -when you ask if we can still be friends (Pg 136)
Those are just a few of my favorite poems that I have recently read from "Milk and Honey" and I strongly encourage you to read it as well, whether you're going through a sad, happy or content phase in your life. A lot of the poems in this book are highly relatable and for me, it makes me feel better knowing I can relate to certain things along with other people. This book has been one of the better ones that I have read, and I can strongly stay that I would read it again and again.
