The only thing better than having someone be truly proud of you is being proud of yourself. I have never felt like I couldn't do something. I do not limit my possibilities. I try and go for every opportunity that presents itself to me. If you love to write, you write and write every day. There is nothing stopping you from becoming the next upcoming novelist. I have thought long and hard about what I am working towards, and I've decided it's okay not to know right now. There are so many possibilities out there waiting for you to find them. I am 18 years old and have seen more dreams die then I would have expected.
Being the observant person I am, I have found that people are giving up, they are not pushing through and reaching their goals. The goals you set for yourself are so very important! Goals mean everything, they are crucial at every age. I was taught by someone very wise, if you have goals, and stick to them, there is nothing you can't do. When I see friends change majors because of difficult classes or laziness, it truly breaks my heart. This may be a small example but if they give up on a so-called dream because of difficulty level, what else will they give up on? Hard times pass just as quickly as they come.
If you love to draw, go to art school. There is nothing silly about following your heart instead of listening to your brain. If there is someone telling you that you can't do something, prove them wrong. Do everything in your power to do exactly what everyone told you, you couldn't. I can't even begin to explain the accomplished feeling that will overcome you when it's finished. The pride you will hold for yourself will be overwhelming.
The only thing that could ever step in the way of following your dreams is yourself. My only advice to this: don't hold yourself back. You will never know until you try. I remember being a kid and being asked over and over again, "What do you want to be?" And in that moment, it may have been a chef, or maybe a doctor. When you're young the possibilities are endless. If you could truly do anything, what would it be? Once you have your answer, start planning, set goals. Accomplish something for yourself. Do it and then continue to do it. Never stop working to better yourself. Do what you love. Love what you do.
With never ending opportunities and the world at your fingertips what will you do next?
