Full House has always had a place in my heart. My family is a Full House family. We have every season on DVD, we watch the Nick at Nite reruns, and I watch it in my apartment by myself. You could call me an expert on Full House, and also a super rad kid. So when I heard they were doing a reboot of the classic sitcom, I was immediately excited. Full House is returning? It’s about time!
Then the trailer came out a couple of months ago and there has been a lot of attention drawn to the show. Naturally I’ve been viewing all the videos and articles I can get my hands (and eyes) on. I even got a little teary eyed the first time I saw the trailer. What can I say? Full House is a soft spot for me!
The reboot is of course going to be different than the original. If people expect it to be the same, you’ve got another thing coming. I mean the show ended over twenty years ago do people really think it’s going to be just like the original? The girls are all grown up, the adults have moved out, and the Internet is now a thing.
However, the show will take place in the same San Francisco home the girls grew up in, but now D.J., Stephanie, and Kimmy Gibbler are living there to take care of D.J.’s three sons and Kimmy’s teenage daughter.
The general themes and style of the show are the same, but it’s Full House for the twenty first century. Oversized sweaters and layered bangs are not going to appear in Fuller House. It’s all about the selfie stick and Instagram feed and the show will reflect that. Although Kimmy makes a valiant effort to bring back Hammer time. Some things were better left in the nineties.
Another reason it isn’t going to be the same is because we’re not used to that kind of television being made anymore. Sitcoms are very different than the tongue-and-cheek style of Full House. The top “sitcoms” of today are shows like Modern Family, which films in the increasingly popular mockumentary style of television. But who says you can’t love Full House AND Modern Family?
Are you now worried that you won’t like Fuller House? Don’t be. You’re going to love it if you love Full House as much as I do. And if you don’t, watch it anyway. You owe it to yourself. They bring back the old catch phrases and Full House-isms we all know and love. Even Steve comes back for a sandwich, and maybe D.J.’s heart? The only real difference I can spot is that Michelle will not be in the season, but other than that it seems like a perfect way to spend your weekend.
Should you watch the reboot? Yes. Should you binge-watch it? Absolutely! I hope all those Full House lovers will watch the reboot and love every second. I know that’s what I’m doing the weekend. Or week depending on how much homework I actually feel like doing!
