I think we've all been there: that moment when you feel like you have no hope left, when you feel like all you have inside is pure darkness and a giant hole with no ending. We can feel this because of various reasons: school, work, family or relationships. Whatever the reason is, we feel it at some point. However, I've noticed that one of the first things I do whenever something bad happens in my life is look for someone to help me, for someone to tell me that everything is going to be okay and that I'm strong enough to get past this. But shouldn't we be telling ourselves this same advice?
Everyone has someone to rely on, and I believe having someone there for you is always easier when dealing with troubling things that come into your life. But at the end of the day, the only one that feels the pain that you feel is yourself. You are the one that has to wake up every morning and face whatever it is that is making your life difficult. You are the one that has to face these problems sooner or later and no one is ever going to make it go away for you. That's why we need to learn how to be our own heroes, to be there when no one else is.
There's a difference between having a support group and simply following or doing everything the other person tells you to do or what they think is the best for you. How do they really know it is the best? The only one that can do a trial and error with everything and anything is yourself. We constantly give advice to the rest in order to make their lives easier, but once it becomes our own problems, it's like that advice magically stops working.
We have to learn how to take care of ourselves, and I don't mean economically or even physically, but also mentally. Sometimes people are so preoccupied with working with the economical and physical needs that the forget the most important one: the mental need. If we aren't mentally okay, everything that follows will just fall apart. It's obvious that one isn't naturally stable and we may sometimes need something to help us know how to take care of ourselves and how to save ourselves from difficult situations. That's why nowadays there is everything from books to physical activity that does more wonders than you could ever think of.
