Today I'll salute one of the most underrated professions of our time; a hairdresser. Everyone needs a hairdresser quite a few times in their lifetime, but we don't appreciate them half as much as we should. After reading over this and coming to the realizations that I did, thank your hairdresser.
Their job is to make you look better. They spend hours a day altering people's looks to fit their style and personality. This sometimes is quite the challenge. Next time you don't like how it turned out remember that you told them what to do an they worked hard to perfect it.
They aren't magicians. We're all guilty of wanting them to make our hair look just like (insert celebrity name here)'s hair. 9 times out of 10 it's not possible. There's more to coloring your hair than you think. Mixing up the color and putting it on your hair isn't all it takes. Respect them when they say they can't do it. You'll thank them later.
Don't complain about how long it is taking. Any woman should know going into a hair appointment that it isn't going to be a short appointment. Clear your schedule ahead of time. Cutting and coloring hair isn't a fast process. Let them take their time and don't rush them.
Don't put box color on your hair and then expect them to get it all out right away when you hate it. Any beautician will tell you not to put box color from Walmart on your hair. LISTEN TO THEM. They know and fully understand what is in that stuff and wouldn't tell you not to if they didn't.
Work with them; they work for you. When they recommend you to try something different in terms of conditioning and so on, take the advice. They aren't trying to get you to spend more money. They're trying to help you achieve the hair that you want.
So to all the hairdressers, beauticians, barbers, and every other job of those sorts, thank you. Your work is often underappreciated, but never goes unnoticed.
