Recently, I've had the pleasure of watching what very well may be the best film of my lifetime. If you've never heard of "Call Me By Your Name", I can say with the utmost certainty, that this is a film that will be remembered forever.
"Call Me By Your Name" is a love story between two men set in Northern Italy in 1983. What happens that summer is a cultivating love story that keeps you on your toes. It tells of heartbreak and love and mixed signals and everything you could possibly imagine.
Armie Hammer plays Oliver, a graduate student sent to live with Mr. Perlman, a professor. While there he falls in love with Elio, played by the fantastic Timothée Chalamet, who is Mr. Perlman's son. Together they form a relationship on screen that is both pure and scandalous.
So what can you learn from this movie? "Call Me By Your Name" is a story of two people falling in love, plain and simple. It doesn't matter if they're two men. The attraction and the love would be just the same if they were a male and female or female and female. It simply doesn't matter.
Watching this movie I realized that love has no limits or boundaries. Even though it's a fictional story, it tugged at my emotions. I felt as though I was with Elio and Oliver and I was living through their times together. Not to mention that the soundtrack for this film is absolutely breathtaking. Everything about this movie is so particular and stunning and the visuals are absolutely magnificent.
This may sound like just another movie review or critique but I truly believe that this film has the potential of being one of the greatest of all time. It's absolutely timeless and Armie and Timothée's performances are unforgettable.
From this movie I realized that I'm still finding myself as well. I'm getting to know my true self. And there's going to be a lot of ups and downs. Some downs are going to feel like the end of the world and some ups are going to feel like nothing can top them. But that's life. And life goes on.
The most important thing to take from this is the creativity in creating this story. Director Luca Guadagnino has taken the time to cast two brilliant actors whose relationship both on and off screen is captivating. This story will be one to remember for generations to come and Oscar nods look to be in order.
"Call Me By Your Name" has given me a chance to really delve into my own outlook on life and realize that risks are worth taking no matter the consequence as long as you feel it's right for you. It's given me a chance to really live in the moment and mold my future into what I want it to become.
