In 2017, Logan Brought Hugh Jackman's 20-year streak, of playing the adamantium-clawed Wolverine to a tragic end. Since that time, Fox's Deadpool 1 and 2 have been widely successful with 'Deadpool 2' shattering the 'Avengers Infinity War' box office record. Without giving anything away, I will say that the new Deadpool movie gives a nod to both 2017's 'Logan' and Wolverine movies of the past. The success of the Avengers and latest Deadpool films beg the question, "Will Hugh Jackman come out of retirement to reprise his role as Wolverine? Despite the Disney-Fox merger being greenlit, Jackman has stated that he doesn't intend to return to the role any time soon. Many Wolverine fans are saddened by this as it means the Wolverine they grew up with, will be replaced by someone younger and unfamiliar. While the quest to find Jackman's replacement is more than likely in the works, fans could be eased into a Wolverine reboot by introducing similar and yet different characters. Here is a top 5 list of Wolverine's children and why they deserve to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
1. Daken./
The son of Wolverine and Itsu , Daken is like Wolverine in every way. He has his father's healing factor and claws with the added bonus of being able to influence others with pheromones and an immunity to telepathy. So why is Daken so significant? Well, aside from trying to lure in and kill his father in the comics, he eventually becomes Dark Wolverine. After several run-ins with his father, Logan eventually dies as he did at the end of the "Logan" film. After Logan's death, Daken decides to go from scorning his father to honoring his memory and becoming an anti-hero of sorts. Daken is arguably one of the easiest of Logans children to bring to the silver screen, as directors and screenwriters could include elements from 'The Wolverine' to explain his origin.
2. James Hudson
James Hudson is the son of Wolverine and Magneto's former wife Magda Eisenhardt, the latter of whom appeared in the film 'Xmen Apocalypse'. James Hudson is essentially a younger blonde version of Wolverine. He has his father's claws and healing factor but instead of having adamantium grafted to his skeleton, James has the ability to cover his bones with adamantium at will. Reasons as to why Wolverine and Magda got together are fairly vague. Magda appears to have been a double agent, and when Magneto learns of her treachery, he takes Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch (Who have also appeared in the Avengers and Xmen films) with him. In the comics, Magda injects herself with a serum designed to weaponize mutagenic powers, passing the serums properties on to the unborn James in the process. Wolverine is obviously troubled by this, due to the fact that he was also made into a living weapon by the Weapon X program. The rest of the comic plays out similarly to A New Hope, where James is sent to live with a foster family and Logan meets his end at the hands of Magneto. There is a possibility James could appear on the silver screen as his appearance marks the death of Wolverine and could potentially follow his cinematic death at the end of 2017's 'Logan'.
3. Wild Thing
The daughter of Wolverine and the assassin Elektra , Wild Thing deserves a spot on the silver screen. She possesses her father's strength, speed, and healing factor. However, where her father has adamantium claws, Wild Thing possesses Psionic claws, a trick taught to her by her godmother Psylocke who made an appearance in 'Xmen- Apocalypse' . While Wild thing might not be the most popular of Wolverine's children (due to her relatively short comic book run), genderswapping popular male characters for female ones is becoming commonplace in Hollywood, making a Wild Thing appearance more than a possibility.
4. The Mongrels
Think one Wolverine is badass? Imagine an entire clan of them! Gun Hawk, Shadow, Cannon Foot, Fire Knives, and Saw Fist, are Wolverine's children trained and utilized by the sinister Wolverine-hating cult known as the Red Right Hand. In the comics, Wolverine literally claws his way out of Hell before facing off against his long-lost children and unknowingly killing them. The irony of this story arch is that this was the Red Right Hand's plan from the start. Wolverine crawled out of hell only to find a new one waiting for him on the other side. The Possibility of a film exposing this more sinister side of Wolverine looks promising. Fox has already begun working on a horror film called 'New Mutants' to be released sometime in 2019. While Jackman has admitted that he won't be returning to the franchise, this version of Wolverine could give fans a fresh, darker view of the character and keep audiences invested in the possibility of more Xmen themed horror films.
5. Raze Darkholme
I saved the best for last on this list. Raze is the son of Mystique and Wolverine. He possesses his father's claws and healing factor, with his mother's shapeshifting ability, making him the perfect assassin. Raze is by far, the most savage and ruthless of all of Wolverine's children. Eventually, he decides to join his reality's Brotherhood of Mutants and one-ups Magneto in the process. Where Magneto wanted to use Cerebro to kill all humans in the film 'X2: Xmen United', Raze goes a step further and removes all humans from earth to create a haven for mutants from...wait for it... EVERY CONCEIVABLE REALITY! So how could Raze be brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe? The answer might lie in the upcoming Xmen film, 'Dark Pheonix', set to hit theaters in 2019. In the Comics, The Pheonix version of Jean Grey helps to thwart Raze' evil plans. If scriptwriters fiddle with the idea of time or interdimensional travel in the upcoming film, there is a possibility that Raze could make an appearance.
