Why We Cancelled Our Trip To The Dominican

I'm sure you have seen the bad press going on in the Dominican Republic. There have been multiple deaths regarding food poising, drink poisoning and murder. Originally our trip was booked for the week of July 12-19, but because of the many issues this place has been encountering we decided to cancel and go to Jamaica instead (casual right).

It's terrifying to think that these American tourists went to the Dominican on vacation with no worry in the world, just for the whole trip to turn completely upside down. These victims had absolutely no idea what was coming for them and it's terrifying to think this could've been me or someone else I know. Although these stories have made headlines for the past month or so, it truly isn't getting the attention it needs. There are so many questions left unanswered. For example, why was the booze poisoned? Why was a man dressed up as a worker attacking a vulnerable women who just wanted to get a snack? Why are Americans getting attacked when they've done absolutely nothing wrong? It's sad that some resorts are losing ratings due to these tragedies because not all places in the Dominican are having the same issues, but that's what happens when similar instances occur over a short period of time.

Whenever you travel out of the country make sure you are constantly aware of your surroundings. It's also in your best interest to join some kind of message board for the resort or place you plan on visiting because chances are those posts are very accurate and you know what to expect prior to arriving. You probably already know these tips, especially when traveling out of the country, but sometimes we get too caught up in the moment and forget that sometimes we aren't always safe.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
