It's easy with all the news we see on television and hear on the radio to believe that we live in the worst time period there has ever been. As they say, ignorance is bliss. It's true, it's hard to keep your faith in humanity intact when you hear and see global atrocities on what seems like a daily basis. It is easy to be pessimistic, and people may say that we are living in the worst of times, when in fact there is so much more going on than what we hear on the news. The technology of this era is something we have all taken for granted at some point. The people who think that we live in a terrible time period may not realize just how good we have it.
The inundation of media we are exposed to results in us hearing news stories from across the world in real time. Just a few decades ago this would have been beyond anyone's imagination. With this inundation, all of a sudden we hear about most major atrocities in the world. Every day it is something new. Because of this, it is easy to think that there is more bad in this world than good. It's all we ever hear about! The media will always cover an armed robbery or a shooting, but many fail to tell us about newly discovered cures to diseases, great successes that charity has brought to small villages, or the story of first responders saving civilian lives in a natural disaster. There have always been more good people in this world than bad.
We have access to technology today that we wouldn't have been able to dream of even just 200 years ago. We are able to fly to get to our destinations much faster, we have telephones that allow us to talk to someone all the way across the country, and if we have a question, the answer is right there at our fingertips. It's silly for people to complain that we live in such a retrogressive time period when the occurrence of indoor plumbing was a distant dream up until only about 100 years ago. The world we live in is one of luxury, and some of the basic things we use every day can be taken for granted.
It is simple to fall into the trend of pessimism, but we must take a clear look at the world. We must think about the luxuries of how we live every day; Seek out the good news of the world. I promise there is much more than it seems. I have attached a few links to some platforms that provide good and inspiring news:
