There's only one thing I look forward to during the summer... concerts. Since I can remember, I have had a undying love for music and all things surrounding it. I've travelled far and wide just to see the music that I love come to life on a stage in front of thousands of people. I have yet to regret any single dollar that I've spent doing what I love.
When I was merely 8 years old, I went to my first concert. Due to an accident during the summer, my parents spent a whopping 50 dollars (a lot in that time) for me to sit in floor seats at Rascal Flatts. I was obsessed with Rascal Flatts... to say the least. I knew every song off from every album and spent my free time watching music video reruns on the country music channel. When it finally got to that day, I couldn't sleep. I couldn't eat. All I wanted to do was to go to the concert. When I finally got there, I was a tiny child in a swarm of hundreds of people ranging in ages. I remember begging my dad for a T-shirt with the band on it, which I ended up wearing thin in the upcoming months. Throughout the entire concert, I stood up on my seat (which was only allowed because I was around four feet tall), singing and dancing obnoxiously. That's when I knew I was hooked. I would spend every last dime if I could feel that adrenaline once again.
Over the years, I don't even want to think about how much money I've dropped on various concerts. In middle school, I saw the Jonas Brothers numerous times and waited every summer to score tickets with my best friend. Now I spend my paychecks on 5 Seconds of Summer VIP and whatever other band I want to see. It's a lot more convenient being able to drive and provide your own transportation as well as having your own money to blow it on. My best friend and I look at our bank accounts in angst after a concert... but the memories are always worth more.
I could spend my money elsewhere like clothing or books, but I spend my money where my happiness is. There's no greater feeling than seeing my favorite artist in the flesh and playing the songs that I've listened to on repeat. I love seeing the raw emotions that the artists put into the music and feel that I can relate to whatever they're going through. There's nothing quite like being with your very best friend and jumping up and down for hours on end and screaming at the top of your lungs. Until I find something that feels as amazing as being at a concert, I'll keep spending every last dollar I have to get a piece of the adrenaline.
