As 19 year olds get closer to the big 2-0, many things are rushing through their heads. Yes, beating teen pregnancy is an accomplishment but so is everything else that comes with it. After getting your license at 17, being a teenager sucks. You are eagerly waiting for your twenties to come around. You feel awkwardly stuck between teen years and adulthood. You are not seen as a teenager but also not seen as an adult. But as the day you turn 20 gets closer and closer, it is a surreal feeling.
Through your two decades of life, you grew up, made relationships, graduated high school, got into a college, and now basically are halfway done through college. Your life flashes before your eyes. Just take a minute and reminisce on all the things you accomplished thus far. You are entering the next decade where your life will really start. You are starting your own life. You are responsible for yourself. It is a bittersweet feeling, but you made it this far, so keep pulling along!
Your twenties are when you should be growing up and being the best you. The you that you always dreamed about. Graduating college, getting a good job, and settling down. Your future starts in your twenties. Not saying you have to have your whole life put together, but you start planning out what you want in life. Although congratulations are in order for beating teen pregnancy, your twenties are not an easy ride.
Being twenty means you have to grow up. Your mom and dad can’t do everything for you anymore. If you still can’t do your laundry, then maybe this is when you should take on that challenge. Soon enough, you will be walking on graduation day and wanting to live on your own. How can your live on your own with mom and dad helping you every step you take? You need to start thinking of moving out, paying back your loans, getting your own car, and taking your four year relationship to the next level.
Your twenties should be the best years of your life, learning and experiencing the real world. Take this time to travel and see new places. Do things that make you happy not your parents. But also make time for your family. You will be changing a lot in your life and I guarantee they want to be a part of it. Do not cut out your parents in your twenties. Do not ever forget who helped you through two decades of your life.
All I’m saying here is yes, you beat teen pregnancy but there is so much more to look forward to in your twenties. Basically, your life starts in your twenties, so get ready for this crazy ride! Goodbye teenager you, hello twenty you!
