Taking "fried chicken and cold beer on a Friday night" to a whole new level.

Why The Lake Life Is The Right Life

1. It’s beautiful in every which way, every day.

Between the sunrise, sunset, and all things sunny in between, those mesmerizing reflections off the water never get old

2. It’s definitely not anything new, which is kind of cool.

Lake life hasn't changed much since it first became a thing, so nearly everything you do here has some history attached to it. It's all very old timey and romantic in a lovely, timeless way.

3. There’s an endless abundance of things to do.

Water skiing, tubing, paddle boarding, kayaking, canoeing, knee boarding, fishing, cliff diving, rope swinging, swimming, serenading the love of your life while sitting on the dock of the lake, watching the tide roll away… Seriously the possibilities are limitless.

4. It’s one of the best traditions to have.

There is nothing a bunch of kids love more than a lake and goggles, and besides actually being one of the kids in the water, there is nothing more enjoyable than watching them have the time of their lives.

5. It brings people together.

Yes, that’s lame and corny as all get out. But, there is real truth behind those cliché words. Family, friends, and neighbors--regardless of the relation, there’s always room for one extra person on a pontoon boat or some usable space for one extra air mattress.

6. Dogs love it too! Always a bonus, honestly, dogs rock.

With their cool webbed toes and waterproof fur, labradors and other water dogs go absolutely nuts with all the exciting activities going on. Don't have an aqua dog? No worries, I have it on pretty good authority that despite what their facial expressions may tell us, all canines love life at the lake.

7. It's not just a day thing.

The lake is arguably one of the most magical places in the world at night, especially when you're out on the boat. The wind whipping back your hair as you speed seemingly blindly past the lights of other boats, all while under the millions of constellations. It's exhilarating and breathtaking, but somehow amazingly simple. Also, the moon is brighter on the lake than anywhere else, which is awesome.

8. It's the most relaxing place to be.

There's something about the constant, gentle rocking of the waves and the quiet breeze that makes you want to play the uke and open a yoga shala while drinking tea and wearing a poncho.

9. Pontoon boats are fast too.

You don't need one of those fancy speed boats that goes 60mph or whatever to have a good time, a good old redneck yacht will do the job just fine. Plus you can fit a ton more people on these floating living rooms, so you can invite everyone you know for the ride. PLUS, you can go tubing on them, which is the best part of being alive.

10. Did I mention that it’s beautiful?

There is nothing more photogenic than a sun and a lake. Seriously. Nothing.

11. Except maybe a lake and a rainbow.

But that's the only exception.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
