If you are not aware of the 'He Will Not Divide Us' exhibit I will quickly fill you in. To start off, the exhibit was made by LaBeouf, Rönkkö & Turner, who made a live streamed art installation at the Modern Museum Of The Moving Image in Astoria, New York.
The stream started on January 20, 2017 and will be active for the four years that Donald Trump is President. It is located on the side of the museum building. Everyone from any culture with any belief is welcome. This is not a anti-Donald Trump protest despite what you may have heard. I have been watching the live stream on and off since it started, and there have been plenty of Trump supporters.
With my personal experience, I have seen mostly positivity but I can't say that for everyone. When I arrived outside the museum on Sunday January 29th at 2pm, there was nothing but love. I waited with my sister and my friend behind these very friendly people who were speaking words of wisdom to the camera. We didn't have to wait very long to get our turn. I was personally very nervous because I had no idea what I was going to say. I stood in front of the camera and looked up at the "He will not divide us" sign. As I started repeating it, I felt the tears come to my eyes. We then got politely interrupted by a man who wanted us to say something for him and we gladly obliged. He wanted us to say "We the people, free free the people" and so we did. Within a minute, everyone from the protest was saying it along with us. I can't even explain the feeling of unity that was in that moment.
The most important aspect about this art project is that nothing will divide us. Even if you are a Trump supporter and I am not, we can still hold hands and respect each others opinions. There have been people who went to the protest thinking that we were already divided, and quickly became educated on why we should not be. All people, of all ages, genders, and race come together to spread one important message and I think that's really beautiful.
