So, remember seeing Kanye's new music video and feeling vaguely offended. I feel like most people were. And even though it is very wrong and shouldn't have been made, Kanye brings up some very important points about the celebrity world and also the music industry.
Celebrities live in a world where they are constantly on display. There bodies, lives, and problems are out for the world to see. Which is wrong on so many levels. Would you want to have your divorce or drinking problem known to the world. Probably not. His video brings up that these people are also out for the world to see and it is impossible for them to hide anything.
That brings me to my next point. Sexism in the entertainment industry. The other thing that people were furious about was the nudity of the video. However, if that bothered you, then why doesn't it bother you that some female singer is wearing an extremely low cut top of stage, sometimes against her will.
This is the problem with the industry. Women still aren't treated with respect, and men also have the problem of having to "show off" or "sell out". Even in jobs, men dominate more of them and women are forced to do the show off jobs, which involve sometimes no clothes.
Performers have this problem. If they don't look the part then no one pays attention. It is no longer about the music these days. As long as it is catchy and made by a popular artist people listen to it. Think about the last concert you went to. What were the females wearing? Revealing stuff? Tight clothes? Would you be comfortable wearing this on a stage? Probably not.
The point I am trying to get is that we need to focus on bringing unity to the entertainment industry. We need to focus on the talent and not what said celebrity was wearing or how much make up they where. Even in the behind the scene jobs, people aren't treated fairly and can't showcase their true talents.
So change it. Society needs to change how we function and treat people. So stop trying to be like what you see and be like someone who is themselves.
