We've all been asked the question "Why'd the chicken cross the road?" With the normal response of, "To get to the other side." Of course, it's the most basic go-to joke. But maybe that's not the case. Maybe the chicken crossed the road for other reasons, and we underestimated it. Here are a few reasons as to why I think the chicken truly crossed the road.

1. The other chickens dared him to.

Poor little Charlie the chicken was never appreciated by the other chickens. They always ate dinner together and told each other jokes. Charlie felt left out and desired to be one of them. Then one day his wish came true and the other chickens invited him to eat with them. Charlie was thrilled. The other chickens told Charlie that if he wanted to be apart of them he'd have to do one simple dare. Charlie thought this was easy enough...until they dared him to cross the road. The road that no one even thought about crossing, it was a death sentence. So Charlie hid his fear and said he'd do it. The other chickens never found out if Charlie did it or not... Charlie never made it back to the farm.

2. The farm life wasn't enough.

Charlie realized that the farm life wasn't enough for him. The daily routine of eating, clucking, and laying eggs was dull and boring. Charlie craved something more, he knew he was always different from the other chickens. Charlie loved to dance and sing, he dreamt every night of being on stage and having his name on every billboard. One night Charlie was restless and couldn't sleep as his mind could only focus on his dream life. So Charlie packed his bag and crossed the road in hopes of being on stage. Little Charlie made it to the big leagues and now performs every night, with his name in bright lights.

3. He went on holiday.

Every year Charlie saw all the other chickens leave for a week and come back with endless stories about their trips. Charlie was jealous. He wanted to go on holiday, he deserved it after all his hard work. Charlie put in his Holiday request slip and hoped for the best. A week later Charlie was crossing the street and heading towards relaxation on the beach and fruity drinks.

4. To vote for net neutrality.

Charlie was fed up with the fear of his fellow chicken friends and their fear of getting rid of net neutrality. This would ruin their Netflix binge-watching of "Stranger Things." How would they survive without Twitter and Instagram? How would they know what's going on outside of the farm? So Charlie got up the courage to cross the road and do his civic duty of voting for the sake of himself and his chicken friends. Sadly his vote wasn't enough.

5. They were playing a game of chicken.

Whoever crossed the road the most times without getting hit by a car won the game. Charlie was competitive, he refused to lose even if his life was at risk. The game was being held on Friday, he spent all week preparing by running early in the morning. Charlie was confident he wouldn't lose. Friday came along and all the chickens lined up to watch the games begin. Charlie didn't win the games, but he did learn that it's not all about winning, but having fun with you're friends.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
