Spring break. The only two words that students actually care about from the very first day of school. When we were children, we depended on our parents to plan the best vacation of our lives. Some went to the beach and rented what seemed to be the biggest beach house ever, while others went to a log cabin in the mountains. We cannot forget the ones who also incorporated an amusement park into those plans as well.
As we get older, we start making our very own spring break plans, with or without our parents. I, for instance, went back home because I had a dentist appointment and that was the only thing that was planned for my amazing spring break. Everything else that happened during the week would just be the flow of what my family was doing because they did not have the same week for spring break as I did. I would have to call my spring break a hit because all I wanted was to spend time with my family and get the rest that I needed to get through the rest of my semester of my first year in college.
You are probably thinking who would take spring break as a miss, and at one time, I was thinking the very exact same thing. Once I had time to think about it, a lot of terrible things happen over spring break. Things such as car accidents, kidnappings, and people being drugged and raped. Things that we do not imagine that would happen over a time that should be fun. Sadly, it is true. My college sent out an email that told everyone to "stay safe" and I could not be more thankful for a university that cares about my safety. I think that if I heard that another student that attended my college was killed I would not be able to handle it. Let alone if I got a phone call that one of my roommates were raped and could not handle the aftermath and dropped out. I would be very devastated.
That is why with whatever spring break plans that we make, we make them including someone else. It never hurts to have someone else included just in case something happens that was not in the original plans. We all want spring break to be a hit, no matter the outcome. Although we cannot control what happens, we can be sure to be prepared for the worst. It is also never a bad thing to keep the police on speed dial.
