Picture this. One day in early November, you are out hiking at Chautauqua, enjoying the colorful leaves while sporting your Nike shorts and newest frat formal shirts with your sorority sisters. All is well in Boulder, Colorado.
The next morning you wake up and as per usual check your phone, including the weather app, and notice that it is zero degrees. Thinking there must be a glitch you look out your window and sure enough there is a heavy blanket of white powder covering the streets and sidewalks.
For many, this 60-degree temperature drop in less than 24 hours would be a nightmare, but for Colorado sorority girls the best season has arrived. Why you ask?
Because:
1. Below-zero temperatures are the perfect excuse for a night in
Bring on the Gilmore Girls, baking, oversized sweatshirts and yoga pants because if there is snow on the ground then no one can give you a hard time for not going out. Because let’s face it: they probably don’t want to either.
2. Uggs and sweats are the ideal outfit for class
When winter in Colorado strikes, all concern for style usually goes out the window. For a casual day at class anything goes as long as the outfit comes in layers. If you have to go somewhere that does not accept Uggs and baggy sweatshirts, then a sorority girl’s go to usually involves a big sweater, a beanie, and tall leather boots. Throw on a scarf and you’ll be red carpet ready.
3. Pumpkin Spice Lattes are back
Although the term “basic” is highly overrated and rightly earns our generation condescending looks of disapproval, there is really no other word to describe this seasonal miracle in a cup. Pumpkin Spice Lattes have earned their basic title as a rich white girl beverage to only be enjoyed between the months of October through December. If you order a Pumpkin Spice Latte in the month of June, then you take away the glory and anticipation of the winter Starbucks menu. Sorority girls love their seasonal Starbucks.
4. Cute Instagram pictures
Unfortunately, “we do it for the instas” has become a common motto. Long gone are the days when we left our phones at home and ventured out into the world disconnected from technology. No. Winter for sorority girls is an Instagram game changer. From snowboarding pictures on the slopes or just a couple friends casually laughing in their color coordinating beanies and scarves, there is no shortage of cliché captions somewhere along the continuum of snow bunny to winter wonderland.
5. Christmas music
The day snow hits the ground and sticks is the day Christmas albums start permeating the air. From Taylor Swift to the classics, cheer is in the air. A crackling fire and some Jack Frost make for a perfect winter day.
